Present Continuous (-yor) Şimdiki zaman (-yor)
Actions happening now or these days: geliyorum — I'm coming, Türkçe öğreniyorum — I'm learning Turkish.
The rule
- Formula: verb stem + (ı/i/u/ü)yor + personal ending.
- If the stem ends in a consonant, a harmonizing vowel is added: gel → geliyor, al → alıyor, gör → görüyor.
- If the stem ends in a or e, it changes: başla → başlıyor, bekle → bekliyor.
- Negative: -m(ı)yor: gelmiyorum — I'm not coming. Question: geliyor musun? — Are you coming?
