Cases: to, at, from and the Object Hâl ekleri: -e, -de, -den, -i
Instead of prepositions, Turkish uses endings: Ankara'ya — to Ankara, Ankara'da — in Ankara, Ankara'dan — from Ankara.
The rule
- -a / -e (to, towards): okula — to school, anneme — to my mother. After a vowel: -ya / -ye.
- -da / -de (at, in, on): evde — at home. After ç, f, h, k, p, s, ş, t: -ta / -te (sokakta — in the street).
- -dan / -den (from): işten — from work. After the same hard consonants: -tan / -ten.
- -ı / -i / -u / -ü marks a definite object ("the"): Kitabı okudum. — I read the book. Compare: Kitap okudum. — I read (a book / some books).
- With proper names, use an apostrophe: İstanbul'da, Ayşe'ye.
