There is / There are Var / Yok
Bir yerde bir şeyin var olup olmadığını anlatmak için kullanılır. Türkçedeki "var" ve "yok"un karşılığıdır.
Ne zaman kullanılır?
- Tekil ve sayılamayan isimlerle there is: There is a park near my house. There is some milk in the fridge.
- Çoğul isimlerle there are: There are three bedrooms in the flat.
- Olumsuz: There isn't any sugar. There aren't any chairs. Soru: Is there a bank here? Are there any shops?
- Geçmiş: there was / there were: There were a lot of people at the concert.
- Dikkat: "have" ile karıştırma. Evde bir kedi var → There is a cat in the house. Ama Benim bir kedim var → I have a cat.
